Truths and opinions

I’ve just been watching a few controversial you tube videos. They always make me mad, but still I keep on watching. It’s easy to find videos with people and leaders that certainly teach you something positive, but then, on the same page, there are so many opposing videos that try to convince you otherwise. And in the end, you find yourself questioning everyone and everything, because people stuff your mind with their opinions and arguments. Sometimes I feel like those videos create more harm than good, and I just suddenly came to this conclusion:

Fame and power is dangerous.

No matter how good the cause, or how true your statements; the moment that your face or your name is connected to that statement, it becomes human. And if it's human, it's no longer a truth, but a matter of opinion. For no human owns the power of ultimate truth. And if it becomes a human opinion, it will always be open for arguments. No matter how hard you try, the more famous and popular you become amongst a certain group of people, the more open you are for attacks from the opposers. And aren’t the opposers the ones that really need to hear those truths? Look at the people on youtube: for every preacher and every person trying to get ‘n good and true message across, there are always hundreds of videos that proves it wrong (or tries to and succeeds in convincing people). So if you truly have a message to get across. If you truly need to get the truth to the world out there and plant it inside their hearts, what is the best way of doing so? It’s an open question, I don’t have the answer.

Yes, I do think that a lot of these writers, preachers and other well known people with positive, life changing opinions truly make a difference in thousands of lives. But the ignorant ones will always find a way to be ignorant. The atheists will always find a way to be atheist, and the more people that try to convince them otherwise, the more ways will be found to fight against it.

And this, in my opinion (which doesn’t mean much according to this argument) is one of the biggest flaws of leadership. And it also probably is religion’s biggest flaw. Religion will always be a human institution. Created by humans, based on human opinions, and filled with human flaws.

I really want to make a difference in this world, somehow, somewhere. BUT: I have just decided that I never want my face on a tv screen. I never want my name on bill boards or in newspapers. That is not the way to do it, because I am a flawed and broken human being, just like everyone else. And I can never be the perfect example, therefore there will always be a reason to turn against me. I need to find a way to DO something, instead of just saying it. DO something without connecting my name or my face or my opinion to it. I need to reach peoples hearts from the inside, without them even knowing it. I know that the best way of touching someone’s heart, without them realizing it, is with love. And true love is unselfish and unconditional and is not arguable, and this (in my opinion) is a truth, not an opinion. Therefore, the best way to change this world, is with love.

Now... What is the best way of teaching the world to love, without people even realizing what it is they are experiencing? Music? Art? Entertainment?

Let me think about this a bit more and I’ll come back to you on that.

After all this time

So, I'm back! I left my other blog (the londonblog) that I did for the SA newspaper to someone else, because... I'm not in London anymore! I am now in Belgium, in a small town neer Brussels, called Overijse. It's a long story, that I will tell when I have more time. A lot has changed, but I am still traveling and on a mission to explore the world while I am "young and unattached". This time, though, I came all alone. No brother or long lost friends to meet up with, just me on my own little mission. It's going to get lonely at times, I know. And, like always, the days will come that I just want to give up and go home (nothing new, please excuse my occasional complaining!).

There are some new adventures waiting for me! People to meet, places to see and since all of my friends are now either in SA or in England, I spend much more time on the net, chatting on skype or keeping up to date on facebook, so don't worry: This time, I'll keep in touch!
